This particular vehicle is in need of some major engine repair. It is a 1998 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1 liter engine in it. It belongs to a friend of mine. The story I got was that her husband was driving to work when he heard a loud noise from under the hood accompanied by the oil light. He said the engine started to run rough so he pulled over right away and got it towed to a near by shop where the mechanic diagnosed it as a broken camshaft. This video was taken at his house after he declined to do the repair as it would be more than the vehicle is worth. The computer flagged several misfire codes including P0300 for a random cylinder misfire. On the 3.1 liter engines, the oil pump runs off of the end of the camshaft. The oil light is on because the back half of the camshaft is not spinning.
